Matthew Hellums Obituary, Death; A 38-year-old man, who lost his life in Carson due to a collision between a minivan and a car on the Gardena (91) Freeway, was identified by county authorities on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at 12:38 a.m. on Monday on the westbound Gardena Freeway, just west of Central Avenue, as reported by the California Highway Patrol.
According to the CHP, both vehicles obstructed the HOV lane.
The victim, identified as Matthew Hellums by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office, was declared dead at the scene, as stated by the CHP.
A news videographer present at the scene reported that one individual with injuries was transported to a hospital.
The CHP issued a SigAlert, resulting in the closure of the westbound HOV lane along with lanes 1, 2, and 3. These lanes were reopened at 4:18 a.m.
