Marvin Butler,Basir Wells Obituary, Death; – The Sumter County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identities of two children who tragically lost their lives after being struck by trucks on Sunday. Coroner Robert Baker has identified the deceased as Marvin Butler, aged 15, and Basir Wells, aged 12, both residents of Sumter.
According to the Highway Patrol, the incidents occurred on Britton Road in proximity to Excitement Lane. Investigators report that a 2020 GMC Sierra Pickup truck collided with Wells at approximately 6 a.m. Shortly thereafter, a 2014 Dodge Pickup truck struck Butler.
Authorities indicate that Butler succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Wells was airlifted to a hospital, where he ultimately passed away on Tuesday. Neither of the drivers involved sustained injuries. Coroner Baker has stated that Butler’s autopsy is scheduled for today, while Wells’ autopsy will take place on Friday, both at MUSC Charleston.
The investigations into both collisions are ongoing.
