Martin Soria Obituary, Death; – Authorities have identified the driver who lost his life after crashing his Aston Martin during a high-speed police pursuit in Boyle Heights last week.
The chase occurred in the early hours of Friday, May 30, when officers from the California Highway Patrol attempted to stop a driver in a silver Aston Martin for exceeding speeds of 70 mph, according to officials.
That driver, later recognized as 30-year-old Martin Soria, fled the scene, prompting officers to engage in a pursuit that was ultimately terminated due to the hazardous speeds involved.
An aerial unit continued to track the vehicle, guiding officers to the location of the crash at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Soto Street in Boyle Heights.
After colliding with a utility pole, Soria fled on foot for approximately one block before being apprehended. While being taken into custody, Soria experienced a “medical emergency” after being subdued by police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Aston Martin displayed temporary license plates and was registered in Irvine. Inside the vehicle, authorities discovered plastic trash bags containing packages and a safe.
The precise cause of Soria’s death remains undetermined.
Additionally, it is not immediately known what the packages found within the sports car contained. The Medical Examiner’s office is currently conducting an investigation into the cause of his death.
