Mario Culver Obituary, Death; – A man has been apprehended in relation to the shooting death of a Lithonia resident, whose remains were discovered in a burning vehicle three days prior to last Christmas, as reported by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.

Officials indicate that the body of Mario Culver, aged 36, was located in a burning car on December 22, 2024, on Wilson Avenue in Atlanta, following his fatal shooting in Ellenwood.

Investigators, aided by the U.S. Marshals Service and South Fulton Police SWAT, located the shooting suspect, Marcus Overstreet, aged 42, from Atlanta, on July 22 at an apartment on Flat Shoals Road in Union City, according to authorities.

Overstreet has been charged with malice murder in connection with Culver’s death, as stated by officials. During his arrest, it was reported that Overstreet sustained injuries from a broken window while attempting to evade capture.

He is also facing charges of simple assault related to family violence stemming from an incident on October 22, 2024, as well as battery-family violence first offense charges linked to a November 26, 2024, incident at a residence on Boulder Springs Cove in Ellenwood, according to authorities.

In Fulton County, there are outstanding warrants against Overstreet for murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain offenses, as reported by authorities.

Following his arrest, Overstreet was transported to the DeKalb County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
