Maria Florencia Rubio,Liliana Morgan Obituary, Death;- A tragic double murder-suicide has devastated the community of Portland, Oregon, claiming the lives of a “devoted mother” and her “radiant light” daughter.
On Saturday, September 6, shortly after 5 p.m., Portland police received a report of gunfire at a residence located on Southeast 64th Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the deceased bodies of 48-year-old Maria Florencia Rubio and her 10-year-old daughter, Liliana Morgan. According to police reports, both victims had been fatally shot by Rubio’s son, 22-year-old Miguel Morgan.
Following this, Miguel reportedly turned the firearm on himself, resulting in his death by suicide, as stated by the authorities.
Rubio was described as someone who “loved our family with all of her heart,” by her surviving son, 20-year-old Mateo Christian, who initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses and other bills, including the mortgage for the family home.
Mateo expressed that his younger sister, Liliana, “had so much more to experience and develop. She adored cats and enjoyed watching movies with her mother, as well as spending quality time with our family,” he noted.
Describing her as a beautiful spirit, he mentioned that she shared a close bond with her father and was deeply cherished by her classmates and everyone around her. He reflected on her final days, filled with excitement for school, choosing the perfect outfit, enjoying adventures with her dad, sipping a matcha chiller, and cuddling with their mother and cat while watching movies before bedtime.
The grandparents of Rubio’s children remain in disbelief regarding Miguel’s actions.
“Absolutely shocked by how this occurred,” their grandmother, Tonya Trutton, shared with KOIN. “You find yourself wondering, ‘What did we overlook? How did we not recognize this? What was he not disclosing to us?’ And there are simply no answers.”

“It’s incredibly difficult to comprehend how this transpired, how the loss of one beloved child could lead to the other child being the cause of that loss,” Trutton further remarked.
Tonya and her husband Daniel have also launched a GoFundMe to assist their son and surviving grandchild with funeral costs. “Any contributions of support are immensely appreciated,” the fundraiser stated, with the couple expressing that they are “heartbroken” over the tragedy.
