Legaci Taylor Obituary, Death; – The five-year-old girl who was tragically killed in a shooting incident in Dayton last week has been officially identified.
Legaci Taylor was named by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday.
Taylor lost her life in a shooting that occurred on Nicholas Road on Friday.
As previously reported by News Center 7, Dayton police arrived at the 3000 block of Nicholas Road around 9:20 p.m. on Friday following reports of a shooting.
A man contacted 911 and informed dispatchers that he and his daughter had been shot, but he was unable to speak for long due to fear.
The gunfire erupted just after Taylor had been secured in her car seat. Authorities stated that the father removed her from the seat amid the gunfire and fled for safety inside the home after sustaining a gunshot wound to his foot.
“We are uncertain at what moment she was hit, whether it occurred inside the vehicle or not,” stated Dayton Police Lieutenant Eric Sheldon. “What we do know is that gunfire erupted while she was seated in the vehicle and he was preparing to depart.”
Both Taylor and her father were swiftly transported to local hospitals; however, Sheldon confirmed on Monday that Taylor succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Anyone possessing information regarding the shooting is encouraged to reach out to the police at (937) 333-1232 to speak with detectives, or to submit an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers at (937) 222-STOP (7867) or www.miamivalleycrimestoppers.com.
