Ladarius Collins Obituary, Death; – The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office determined that the fatal shooting of an armed suspect by a deputy in Gresham was “justified” according to Oregon law.

On June 13, officers from the Gresham Police Department and deputies from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) responded to multiple 911 calls regarding a fight involving two individuals at the Cameron Park Apartments.

An eyewitness, as reported by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office, stated that a man, later identified as Ladarius Collins, was engaged in a physical altercation with his brother in the driveway of the apartment complex, during which Collins was armed. At one point, Collins allegedly aimed the gun at individuals attempting to intervene and then held his brother “by the throat while holding a gun to his brother’s head,” according to the witness. Collins’ brother subsequently reported that he had been struck in the head with the firearm. The incident was also captured on police surveillance cameras.

As law enforcement began to arrive, Collins fled the scene. The Gresham Police issued a probable cause for his arrest on charges of third-degree assault, menacing, and unlawful use of a weapon. During the search, Deputy Adam Suboh located Collins, who was evading capture by running through the neighborhood and leaping over fences, at one point accompanied by his girlfriend.

Later, as detailed in the DA’s report, Suboh parked his vehicle, drew his firearm, and instructed Collins to lie on the ground. While approaching Suboh from approximately 20 feet away, Collins allegedly pointed his handgun directly at him, prompting Suboh to discharge his weapon. Collins reportedly “dove down between two cars,” and Suboh observed him lying on the ground with the firearm beside him, commanding Collins to move away from the weapon to receive medical assistance, which Collins failed to do.

Subsequent to the incident, officers provided aid to Collins, who was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. According to the report, Collins sustained a gunshot wound that entered behind his left shoulder, and a Gresham Police detective determined that Suboh had fired six shots.

In accordance with protocol, Suboh was placed on administrative leave, and the East County Major Crimes Team initiated an investigation.
