Kolten Hofmeyer,Ashton Koob. Obituary, Death; 3 teens die in early morning house fire involving several families, authorities say

Kolten Hofmeyer,Ashton Koob. Obituary, Death; – Iowa officials report that three individuals, all under the age of 18, have lost their lives following an early morning house fire in a rural area of the state.

Authorities in Sioux County indicated that the fire ignited around 5 a.m. on Monday at a residence located a few miles northwest of Granville.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed significant smoke emanating from the home, prompting the call for assistance from neighboring communities.

As per the Granville Fire Department, firefighters discovered four individuals inside the home in critical condition. They were subsequently transported by ambulance to Orange City Area Health.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased as 16-year-old Kolten Hofmeyer, 16-year-old Bryleigh Koob, and 17-year-old Ashton Koob.

Regrettably, they succumbed to their injuries, while a fourth victim, identified only as a 16-year-old, remains in critical condition at a burn unit in a Minnesota hospital.

“I have previously reached out to you, Sioux County, to request that you support a grieving family, school, and community… we are in urgent need once more,” stated Sioux County Sheriff Jamie Van Voorst. “This tragic event has impacted several families and a large community. It is profoundly heavy, heartbreaking, and overwhelming.”

The Iowa State Fire Marshal is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

Officials from the MOC-Floyd Valley Community School District have announced that faculty, staff, and clergy will be available at the local high school to support anyone affected by this tragedy.

“We ask that you pause and pray with us for all those impacted by this incident. Please continue to keep them in your prayers in the weeks to come,” the sheriff urged.
