Kareem L Pinney Obituary, Death; A 17-year-old male was fatally shot early Sunday morning in the vicinity of the Grandview Apartments housing community on St. Thomas, as reported by the Virgin Islands Police Department.

The police indicated that the Shot Spotter Detection System notified the 911 Emergency Call Center of multiple gunfire incidents occurring around 2:39 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male individual suffering from gunshot wounds. An emergency medical technician subsequently confirmed that there were no signs of life.

The deceased has been identified as Kareem L. Pinney. Pinney marks the 33rd homicide victim in the territory for the year 2024, according to the Source Homicide List. To date, St. Thomas has recorded 20 homicides, St. Croix has seen 13, and St. John has reported none. Including the incident on Sunday, there have been nine fatalities in the past 30 days alone.

Stalin N. Flores-Gomez, aged 23, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds after being found unresponsive on October 7 at Mandahl Bay Beach on St. Thomas. An unidentified male was shot and killed on October 13 and discovered on Kronprindsens Gade on St. Thomas. In connection with this incident, police issued a wanted notice on Saturday for Demare Andrew Encarnacion, aged 32.

Venquon N. Richardson, aged 26, was shot and killed on October 19 at a gas station in Bovoni on St. Thomas. Walton “Selah” Macedon, aged 67, died from apparent gunshot wounds after police responded to reports of gunfire on October 20 in the Golden Rock area of St. Croix. Franklin Thomas Archibald Jr., aged 20, was fatally shot on October 22 in Hospital Ground on St. Thomas.

Quanza Heath, aged 35, died following a shooting on October 23 in the Lorraine Village area of St. Croix, with a suspect apprehended later that day. Errol Stephen St. Jean, aged 19, was shot and killed on October 25 at the Walter I. M. Hodge Pavilion housing community in St. Croix. Hasani Parris, aged 27, was fatally shot on October 30 in Hospital Ground on St. Thomas.

The increase in gun-related fatalities has led the leadership of the V.I. Police Department to release a video on Saturday, condemning the violence and urging the community to provide any information regarding the recent homicides.
