Juan Jose Cosio Gomez,Kristopher Rose Obituary, Death; – The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office has released the identities of the drivers involved in a tragic double fatal accident that took place on Interstate 5 last month. The individuals have been identified as Juan Jose Cosio Gomez, 58, from San Jose, and Kristopher Rose, 18, from Pleasant Hill, as stated by Deputy Michael Domingue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of a head-on collision in the southbound lanes of I-5, located north of Volta Road, at approximately 12:51 a.m. on October 30. The CHP indicated that a 2008 Honda Accord was traveling in the northbound direction when, for reasons yet to be determined, it veered off the road, crossed the dirt median, and entered the southbound lanes.

The vehicle subsequently collided head-on with a 2017 Isuzu box truck, resulting in both vehicles coming to a halt and igniting, thereby obstructing the southbound lanes of I-5. Authorities reported that both southbound lanes were closed for just over an hour after the incident, with the number two lane remaining closed until around 6:30 a.m.

Fire crews were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the fire, and both drivers were pronounced dead at the site, as confirmed by the CHP. Preliminary findings suggest that both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, and the investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
