Joseph Smothers Obituary, Death; – The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the elderly man who was fatally struck by at least one vehicle over the past weekend on the Northwest Side. According to the San Antonio police, Joseph Smothers was in the roadway on Saturday in the 5000 block of Fredericksburg Road when a 2023 white Jeep Compass collided with him.
Smothers sustained life-threatening injuries and succumbed to them shortly after being transported to the hospital. The 72-year-old’s death was attributed to blunt force trauma resulting from the vehicle impact.
Investigators suspect that Smothers may have been struck by another vehicle prior to the collision with the Jeep, as debris from a different vehicle was discovered at the scene, as indicated in a preliminary police report.
Currently, it remains unclear whether the driver of the Jeep, who remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement, will face any criminal charges. Police have stated that the driver of the unidentified vehicle will be charged with vehicle collision resulting in death once they are apprehended.
