Joseph Horan V Obituary, Death; – A man who succumbed to injuries sustained from a shooting by a deputy in Colleton County has been named, as reported by the coroner’s office. Joseph Horan V, aged 32, died as a result of the encounter with the deputy, according to the Colleton County Coroner’s Office.

On Tuesday night, Walterboro police and Colleton County deputies were dispatched to a disturbance occurring in a parking lot located off Sniders Highway, near a Best Western and Ruby Tuesday, as stated by the State Law Enforcement Division.

The sheriff’s office indicated that they were summoned to assist officers dealing with Horan, who was reportedly vandalizing vehicles in the parking lot by slashing tires and breaking windows. Upon the deputies’ arrival, one deputy attempted to engage Horan, instructing him to drop the knife. Horan allegedly refused and subsequently attempted to assault the deputy.

In response, the deputy discharged their weapon, resulting in Horan being pronounced dead at the scene. The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office has requested an investigation by SLED. The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, although their identity has not been disclosed.
