Joseph Douglas Wheeler Obituary, Death; – The Cook County Medical Examiner has identified the driver who tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle accident on the I-94 Edens Expressway during the peak rush hour on Tuesday.

Joseph Douglas Wheeler, a 35-year-old resident of Chicago, died after colliding with a concrete barrier at 7:11 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-94, close to Winnetka Road, as reported by officials. Wheeler, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries and was subsequently pronounced dead.

Images and videos from the scene revealed emergency personnel examining a vehicle that had a significant hole in the driver’s side windshield, with additional damage noted on the driver’s side window and rearview mirror.

In a post on Facebook, Illinois State Police Troop 3 requested the public’s assistance in the ongoing investigation into the incident.

“Anyone who was driving in the vicinity at the time of the crash, anyone who witnessed the event, or anyone with dash camera footage is encouraged to submit a tip online at http://isptips.illinois.gov/ or to contact ISP Troop 3 at 847-294-4400,” the post stated.
