The district identified the student who died as Jose Hernandez, who went to Mineral Wells High School. Two other students were taken to the hospital in unknown condition, the district said. Their identities were not known.

“We ask that you join us in keeping all of the students and their families in your thoughts and prayers during this time of unimaginable grief,” the district said in its post.

Mineral Wells High School will be open on Sunday, May 25 from noon to 2 p.m. for students and staff who wish to walk in support, and grief counselors will be available.

The MWHS Baccalaureate service will take place at First Baptist Church at 3 p.m., where counselors will also be on site. Then, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the high school will reopen to continue offering support services.

Counselors will also be available at the high school on Tuesday, the district said.

“Please continue to lift up our students, families, and staff in your hearts. In moments of great loss, we find strength in coming together. We will walk through this sorrow united — as one Ram Family,” the district’s post concluded.
