John DeMarco Obituary, Death; – Weeks following a tragic hit-and-run incident in Washington Township, authorities have successfully identified and apprehended the driver involved. Destiny Esquilin, aged 26, was charged on Wednesday with second-degree leaving the scene of a fatal accident related to the incident that occurred on November 4.

Esquilin fatally struck John DeMarco, 58, of Turnersville, while he was walking along Fries Mill Road near Joseph Drive, as reported by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office (GCPO).

The process of identifying the suspect required time and collaboration from the community. On November 15, authorities released surveillance footage and details of the incident to the public. A vigilant citizen subsequently provided investigators with information that led to the identification of the vehicle and its driver.

On Wednesday, law enforcement located Esquilin along with the 2021 silver Honda Civic at a residence in Vineland. The vehicle exhibited damage consistent with the hit-and-run incident, according to prosecutors. Officers transported Esquilin to the Washington Township Police Department, where she was interviewed by detectives. Following the interview, she was charged and released, pending a future court appearance.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Individuals with further information are encouraged to contact GCPO Detective Krystal Santiago at 856-384-5508 or Washington Township Police Detective Matthew Loudenslager at 856-589-0330 ext. 1176.
