Jason Payne Obituary, Death; – A 56-year-old individual was identified on Sunday as the victim who lost their life during the storms in Georgia on Saturday. The Georgia Department of Public Safety reported that the incident occurred when a tree fell onto a vehicle.
According to the Department of Public Safety, Jason Payne, a resident of Carnesville, Georgia, was driving a 2000 Nissan Altima on GA-51 near Garrison Road in Banks County when the tree collapsed.
DPS stated that Payne was heading east on the state route when the tree, located on the south side of the road, fell and impacted the top of the Altima. The driver was declared deceased at the scene, as per DPS.
The incident took place shortly before 7 p.m. On Saturday, Governor Brian Kemp announced the fatality resulting from the storms in a post on X.
“Join us in praying for the loved ones of a Georgian tragically lost tonight due to the severe storms,” the governor expressed. “As we keep them in our thoughts, we’re also praying for the first responders rushing to assist those affected by this powerful weather system and for the safety of those in its path.”
