Jason King Obituary, Death; – A man has lost his life and an individual is in custody following a police pursuit in Monroe County that concluded in tragedy, as stated in a press release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
On Wednesday night at 11:30 p.m., sheriff’s deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Interstate 75 south near exit 188; however, the driver of the vehicle continued to flee, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reports that the chase eventually progressed onto Highway 18 west, where the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a tree, resulting in the immediate death of the passenger. The passenger has been identified as 22-year-old Jason King from Americus. The driver fled the scene, prompting a manhunt that concluded at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday morning.
The driver, a minor from Americus, will face charges of felony fleeing, felony murder, and several traffic violations, as indicated by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in the press release. During the search of the vehicle, deputies discovered a firearm and drugs, which will result in additional charges. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has stated that the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
