James Hines Obituary, Death; – A man lost his life on Wednesday, November 20, after being hit by a vehicle while walking along Old Pineville Road in southwest Charlotte. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has identified the deceased as 39-year-old James Hines.

As reported by CMPD, Hines was traversing the roadway shortly after 8 p.m. when he was struck by a 2000 Lexus RX300 operated by 45-year-old Tamika Smyre. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

Smyre was subsequently arrested and charged with driving under the influence, operating a vehicle with a revoked license, and possession of marijuana. She was taken into custody at the Mecklenburg County jail and was released the following day on bail. According to a statement from CMPD, speed was not a contributing factor in the incident.
