James Douglas Caddy Obituary, Death;- Folsom police detectives are currently investigating a potential homicide after a 63-year-old man from Fair Oaks passed away on Saturday following a reported altercation at a bar located in the city’s historic district.

Folsom officers responded to a medical emergency call at the City Slickers bar on the 700 block of Gold Lake Drive at approximately 3:40 p.m., as stated by department spokesperson Officer Deidre McAuliff. The situation escalated into a criminal investigation; however, officials have refrained from disclosing details regarding the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, citing the ongoing investigation.

The police logs for Folsom on that day do not indicate any service calls related to Gold Lake or the adjacent Lake Natoma waterfront. Nevertheless, audio from police dispatch reviewed by The Sacramento Bee suggested that a physical confrontation took place between the victim and a bar employee prior to the arrival of law enforcement.

According to the dispatch, responding officers noted that the bar staff were uncooperative during the initial response. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased as James Douglas Caddy and has classified the death as a homicide, marking it as the first homicide in the city this year.

On Saturday afternoon, City Slickers was hosting a fundraiser for an employee who had recently sustained injuries in a motorcycle accident, as indicated by a post on the bar’s Facebook page. The post stated, “We are fundraising to support him through this time. We will be putting on a raffle, food, drinks and a good time.”

When contacted on Tuesday, an employee at City Slickers declined to provide comments and directed all inquiries to management, who were not available at that moment. City Slickers, which originally opened in 1994, relocated to its current Gold Lake Drive location in 2018 after being evicted due to lease payment issues at a property on Natoma Street, according to the Sacramento Business Journal. In 2010, a 44-year-old man from Sacramento was killed in a hit-and-run incident in the bar’s parking lot, shortly after a reported altercation inside the Natoma Street location.

Anyone with information regarding the incident that occurred on Saturday is encouraged to contact the Folsom police.
