Jahzaria Lewis Obituary, Death;- Authorities have confirmed the identity of a woman discovered last week in Midtown as 19-year-old Jahzaria Lewis.
Officers responded to a report of a suspicious individual at 1021 Melrose Street around 8 a.m. last Thursday, where they located Lewis, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her body was found adjacent to a damaged fence near a business located at the intersection of Melrose and Southern Avenue. The Memphis Police Department has classified this case as a homicide investigation and is examining whether the damage to the fence is related to the homicide.
A local resident in Midtown, who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed his sorrow to WREG, stating he was heartbroken but not shocked by the violence.
“Crime is pervasive, and it’s not just the weak targeting the weak. It’s not merely the impoverished preying on the impoverished,” he remarked. “It occurs daily, regardless of the time. They commit these acts in the dark and in broad daylight without concern.”
Investigators have not disclosed the cause of Lewis’s death or provided any information regarding potential suspects. Police have indicated that the investigation is ongoing. If anyone has information that could assist law enforcement, they are encouraged to contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
