Gregory John Beckmann Obituary, Death; – A 74-year-old man was identified on Thursday after being struck and killed by an SUV belonging to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department while crossing a street in Orange, outside of a designated crosswalk.
Officers from the Orange Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, at the intersection of Chapman Avenue and Prospect Street, following reports of a collision.
According to Fox 11, the SUV did not activate its emergency lights or sirens at the time of the incident when it hit the man. The sheriff’s vehicle sustained considerable damage to its front windshield as a result of the collision, as reported by ABC7.
Emergency personnel from the Orange Fire Department pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. On Thursday, the Orange County Sheriff’s Coroner Division identified the deceased as Gregory John Beckmann.
The incident led to the closure of Chapman Avenue between Prospect and James streets for several hours while police conducted an investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
