The accident occurred at approximately 9:05 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of Homer Adams Parkway and Seminary Road in Alton.
Zachary A. Shewmake, 28, of Glen Carbon, was charged Oct. 6 with aggravated driving while under the influence, an enhanced Class 2 felony; and aggravated driving while under the influence, a Class 4 felony.
The Alton Police Department presented the case.
According to court documents, on Oct. 3, Shewmake was allegedly driving a Ford Focus on Homer Adams Parkway in Alton while under the influence of alcohol when he collided with another vehicle, resulting in the death of 17-year-old Grace Bustos.
Her mother was airlifted to a St. Louis area hospital, where she was reported in stable condition as of Saturday. Shewmake was ordered remanded to jail.
