Eugene Knutson,James Gelaude Obituary, Death; – The Boulder County Coroners Office has identified two individuals who lost their lives in a small plane crash that occurred on Sunday morning. The aircraft went down just north of Highway 36 in Broomfield, remaining within view of the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport.
According to North Metro Fire, the plane had departed from Rocky Mountain National Airport at approximately 10 a.m., and shortly thereafter, the pilot attempted to return to the airport due to an emergency situation.
As per radio dispatch information acquired by 11 News’ sister station CBS Denver, the pilot informed air traffic control that their door had “popped open” and that they would require a re-landing.
The Federal Aviation Administration reported that there were merely five minutes between the aircraft’s takeoff from the airport and the subsequent crash.
Both occupants of the plane perished upon impact. On Thursday, the Boulder County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identities of the deceased as 80-year-old Eugene Knutson and 74-year-old James Gelaude, the two individuals involved in the crash.
