Ernest Joseph Dyson Obituary, Death; – A WSSC Water employee has been confirmed as the victim of a tragic pedestrian accident that took place early Sunday in Silver Spring, as reported by Montgomery County police.

Ernest Joseph Dyson, 39, from Clinton, was on duty when he was hit by a driver operating a black 2011 Volkswagen CC at the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Rodney Road, according to a statement released by police on Monday. WSSC Water is responsible for providing water and wastewater services to residents in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, as indicated on its official website.

At around 4:40 a.m., law enforcement officers and crews from the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene following reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. The incident occurred in the Hillandale area of Silver Spring, close to Hillandale Local Park.

Investigations have suggested that the driver of the vehicle was allegedly under the influence and was heading southbound on New Hampshire Avenue at the time of the incident, according to police reports. Dyson was declared dead at the scene, while the adult driver reportedly sustained no injuries, as stated in a police announcement made on Sunday.

As of Monday, police have not disclosed whether the driver was arrested or taken into custody. Detectives are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact 240-773-6620. The investigation remains active and ongoing.

WSSC Water has not yet responded to inquiries from MoCo360 via email and phone regarding the incident as of Monday afternoon.
