Emad Alharbi Obituary, Death; – A man who is suspected of murdering a store clerk at a convenience store in Mattydale on Sunday took his own life when officers attempted to apprehend him, according to deputies.

A store clerk at Mattydale Express was shot multiple times after confronting a shoplifter around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, as reported by Thomas Newton, a spokesperson for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.

The deceased clerk was identified as Emad Alharbi, 31, Newton stated.

The shooter, Alec Greiger, 30, from Mattydale, subsequently committed suicide when deputies arrived at his residence to arrest him, Newton indicated. Greiger resides in the 200 block of Mitchell Avenue, approximately six blocks away from the store located at 2107 Brewerton Road.

According to Newton, Greiger entered the store and attempted to steal items. When Alharbi confronted him, Greiger shot him multiple times.

Alharbi was quickly transported to Upstate University Hospital, where he was later declared dead.

Deputies identified Greiger as the suspect and went to his home on Mitchell Avenue on Sunday, as stated by Newton. Despite extensive negotiations aimed at persuading him to exit his home peacefully, Greiger ultimately died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside his residence, Newton reported.
