Elizabeth Camacho Obituary, Death; – Following an incident in Kennedy Park on Friday where a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle, the driver and a passenger were taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as reported by the police.

At approximately 12:55 p.m. on Friday, Lionel Francisco, aged 31, was operating a 2013 Buick Verano on Park Street at the intersection near City Hall in Kennedy Park when his vehicle mounted the curb and collided with Elizabeth Camacho from Cambridge, Massachusetts, within the park, according to a post from the Lewiston Police Department on Facebook.

Camacho was subsequently transported to Central Maine Medical Center and later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland via LifeFlight, where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.

Francisco, who was driving under a learner’s permit, remained at the accident scene and cooperated with law enforcement, as stated in the post.

On Monday, Lewiston police Lt. Derrick St. Laurent indicated that the investigation is still in progress. He mentioned that if detectives determine there is sufficient cause to charge Francisco, such action will be taken once the investigation is complete.

Francisco and a passenger, whose identity remains undisclosed but who held a valid Maine driver’s license, were apprehended by ICE agents. St. Laurent noted that Francisco was detained due to an alleged immigration violation, while the reason for the passenger’s detention remains unclear.

As of Monday morning, Francisco is being held at the Strafford County Correctional Facility in New Hampshire.
