Elijah W Hummel Obituary, Death; – A 21-year-old man lost his life in a motorcycle accident that occurred in Groton early on Friday morning. The Groton town police have identified the rider as Elijah W. Hummel, a resident of Groton. Police reports indicate that they were dispatched to the scene of the crash on Fort Hill Road at approximately 12:45 a.m.
An officer on the scene found a motorcycle down on the roadway, with the operator nearby suffering from severe injuries. The officer promptly called for additional first responders and emergency medical services to assist at the location. Hummel was subsequently transported to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for urgent medical care due to his serious injuries.
Medical personnel pronounced Hummel dead upon his arrival at the hospital. Preliminary investigations revealed that Hummel was operating a 2024 Kawasaki ZX-400 and was traveling westbound on Fort Hill Road at a high speed. Authorities stated that he lost control of the motorcycle, crossed into the eastbound lane, and collided with an unoccupied Jeep Cherokee parked in front of Midway Pizza.
Traffic on Fort Hill Road between Depot and South roads was temporarily closed while the investigation took place, but it has since been reopened. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, according to police.
