Donald Gagnon Obituary, Death; – A Chelmsford man was killed on Wednesday night in a motorcycle crash on Route 3 North, making it the second fatal crash on that stretch of highway this month.

The crash occurred near Exit 91, where the State Police said the motorcycle struck a guardrail. The operator, identified on Thursday as 50-year-old Donald Gagnon, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly after 9 p.m., emergency radio broadcasts reported the crash. Multiple passing motorists stopped to assist, with one telling dispatchers the motorcyclist was unconscious, not breathing, and had no pulse. The broadcasts also noted that no one who stopped had actually witnessed the crash occur.

The Tyngsboro Police Department issued a press release less than an hour later, asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Lt. Cynthia Shay at 978-649-7504 or cshay@tyngsboroughma.gov.

The Exit 91 off-ramp was shut down for hours after the wreck as members of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction and Crime Scene Services investigated the scene along with the Tyngsboro Police.

It is the second time tragedy struck this area recently, as earlier this month another fatal crash occurred on Route 3 North in Tyngsboro. On the afternoon of June 6, a wreck involving multiple vehicles left one person dead, and three others seriously injured. Authorities have released few details about that crash, the cause of which also remains under investigation.
