Derrick Allen Obituary, Death;- The family of a man who was struck by a vehicle on Monday evening and subsequently passed away has confirmed his identity as Derrick Allen, aged 48.
Allen was struck while attempting to cross the street at the intersection of Kennedy Road and Northport Drive at approximately 5:24 p.m. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
According to Madison Police Department spokesperson Stephanie Fryer, the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with law enforcement. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Family members reported that Allen was declared deceased on Wednesday (May 28). They mentioned that their family lacked insurance after Allen lost his catering position at Monona Terrace due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Approximately five years ago, around the same period, Allen received a diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He battled the illness and participated in a clinical trial. The treatment he received enabled him to spend additional time with his family over the past several years.
“Through spirituality and determination, Derrick persevered through his daily struggle with cancer to fulfill his role as a father to his children,” a family friend stated in an online message. “This has been a prolonged, painful, and financially burdensome journey for his family.”
