Derek C Holland Obituary, Death;- Authorities have identified the individual who was shot and killed by a Virginia State trooper on Sunday as 39-year-old Derek C. Holland from Cary, North Carolina.
According to Virginia State Police, law enforcement was dispatched to a “suspicious situation” along Highway 903 in Mecklenburg County at approximately 3:57 p.m. on Sunday.
“Upon arrival, law enforcement observed a vehicle fleeing the scene, prompting a pursuit. During this chase, the suspect’s vehicle crashed in an open field, at which point the suspect brandished a knife and refused to follow the trooper’s orders. Consequently, the suspect was shot and succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” a spokesperson for Virginia State Police communicated via email. “The trooper involved in the incident has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.”
After the investigation concludes, the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Mecklenburg County will decide on any potential actions to be taken.
