Demonta Woodward,Zomarrius Williams Obituary, Death; – A 22-year-old woman is charged in connection with a weekend shooting in Mt. Vernon. Jerria Smith, 22, is charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and obstruction of justice.
Around 1 a.m. on Sunday, seven people were shot in the 600 block of South 15th Street. Two people died as a result of the shooting, and five others received treatment for their injuries.
The deceased were identified as Demonta Woodward, 26, of Mounds, and Zomarrius Williams, 20, of Mt. Vernon.
Mayor John Lewis said that 100 to 150 people attended the event where the shooting happened and that no one in attendance was cooperating with the investigation.
