De Arreis Smith,Haeleigh Stamper Obituary, Death; – Cameron Brand, now 20 years old, was officially charged on Monday with several offenses related to the shooting that occurred during the 2023 Bay High School prom after-party, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to four others.
He faces two counts of first-degree murder for the fatalities of 18-year-old De’Arreis Smith and 16-year-old Haeleigh Stamper, along with four counts of aggravated assault. Since his arrest in April 2023, Brand has been detained at the Hancock County Jail.
The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, April 30, 2023, when Bay St. Louis Police responded to reports of a shooting in the 1000 block of Old Blue Meadow Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered several individuals with gunshot wounds at the prom after-party, with victims aged between 15 and 18 years.
Brand was identified as the suspect based on witness accounts and was apprehended at his residence in Pass Christian shortly after the shooting. He has been held without bond following the elevation of two of his charges from aggravated assault to homicide.
Authorities informed WLOX that Brand had a history of multiple arrests by Waveland police in 2022, including charges related to domestic violence and carrying a concealed weapon. Brand is scheduled to appear in Circuit Court in Bay St. Louis on June 2.
