David Mitchell Besser Obituary, Death; – A 37-year-old man from Pearland is dead after his 25-foot bay boat collided with a commercial barge on the Sabine River/Intracoastal Water in Orange County.
Justice of the Peace Chad Jenkins tells KFDM/Fox 4 News the man who died is identified as David Mitchell Besser from Pearland. The judge has ordered an autopsy.
Capt. Ryan Hall with Texas Parks & Wildlife says the Orange County Sheriff’s Office contacted Texas Game Wardens at about 6:30 Tuesday night to report the boating accident.
Texas Game Wardens, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene on the Sabine River/Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, about halfway between Cow Bayou and Adams Bayou.
They learned a 25-foot bay boat had crashed into the front of a commercial barge as it was traveling along the waterway. Besser died at the scene. The U.S. Coast Guard will be the lead investigative agency because the crash involves a commercial vessel.
