David Colin Dacus Obituary, Death; – The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office has released more information on a fatal plane crash that occurred Monday evening.

FlightAware records show that the jet, a 1979 Aero L-39 Albatros, was headed to the Fond Du Lac County Airport but was diverted to Granite Falls.

As previously reported, authorities received a report from Air Traffic Control of a jet experiencing engine troubles. Less than 10 minutes later, a 911 caller reported that the plane had crashed near the intersection of Highway 23 and Yellow Medicine County Road 39.

At the crash site, authorities found a 43-year-old Texas man standing alongside the highway. He was given medical attention. Authorities also found 49-year-old David Colin Dacus, of California, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined that there was an unspent cartridge used for ejecting seats in the plane. According to authorities, the cartridge was removed and a “controlled explosion was performed” to render it safe.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating the crash.
