Danny Harrison Obituary, Death; – A 71-year-old boater was tragically struck by the propeller of his own vessel while in the water, as reported by Louisiana officials. Agents arrived at the scene following reports of the incident around 8:30 p.m. on June 8, on the Calcasieu River near Ragley, according to a news release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
An investigation revealed that the boater, identified as Danny Harrison from Lake Charles, collided with an object in the river, which caused him to be thrown from his vessel, officials stated. The boat continued to operate in circles and subsequently struck Harrison, as per the officials’ account.
Although he was wearing a personal flotation device, it seems he did not have the required kill switch lanyard for the 16-foot vessel equipped with a 40 horsepower hand tiller outboard motor that he was operating, officials noted. The ongoing investigation is being led by the LDWF Enforcement Division, according to officials. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Danny Harrison,” officials expressed in a Facebook post on June 10.
Harrison was a cherished grandfather, remembered for giving “the absolute biggest and warmest hugs to everyone,” as stated in an online obituary. “He was the most skilled fisherman and never revealed his secret fishing spots,” the obituary added. Ragley is located approximately 25 miles north of Lake Charles in southwestern Louisiana.
