Crystal Sawyer Obituary, Death; – A driver has been charged after a City of Cumming employee was hit and killed by a truck in a parking lot of the government complex, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. On the morning of March 10, Crystal Sawyer, 44, was killed in the parking lot of one of the city’s outlying locations. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

City Administrator Phil Higgins previously said Sawyer was a “wonderful” wife and mother, and he “cannot stress enough how completely heartbroken everyone at the City of Cumming is following Crystal’s passing.” According to the city, Sawyer had been employed there since September 2020.

“She also had a very fun sense of humor and kept her co-workers laughing,” he added. “She was a hard worker who was loved by all her supervisors and co-workers.”
In an update, the sheriff’s office said deputies obtained the arrest warrant for 43-year-old Kevin Turner, of Dawsonville. He faces a homicide by vehicle in the 2nd-degree charge.

The sheriff’s office said Turner turned himself in on Monday, March 17, and has since been released on a $4,420 bond. Sawyer’s family has made funeral arrangements for later this month, according to Higgins. Meanwhile, flags at all City of Cumming facilities were flown at half-staff to honor Sawyer through the end-of-day on Friday, March 21.
