Christopher Thomas Bechtel Obituary, Death; – Tucson police have confirmed the identity of a man who lost his life in a hit-and-run incident earlier this month.
The victim, Christopher Thomas Bechtel, aged 53, was struck around 10 p.m. on November 3 while crossing East Broadway, just east of North Kolb Road, according to police reports. In connection with the incident, 26-year-old Christopher Flores Cañez has been apprehended.
Approximately one hour following the collision, a 911 caller reported observing several individuals pushing a damaged Chevrolet Tahoe into a gas station parking lot located near South Houghton and East Golf Links roads. Witnesses identified Cañez as the only occupant of the vehicle, which exhibited damage consistent with involvement in an accident, as stated in a complaint filed in Pima County Justice Court.
Cañez was initially cited for suspicion of driving under the influence and subsequently released. However, investigators later established a link between him and the incident. He has since been arrested on charges related to the fatal hit-and-run and has been booked into the Pima County jail.
