Christopher Nieves Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identity of a 46-year-old man who passed away in a holding cell at Kings County Criminal Court on Friday evening.

The NYPD reported that Christopher Nieves was discovered unconscious and unresponsive in his holding cell at approximately 10:15 p.m. following a medical incident. Emergency personnel arrived promptly but declared him dead at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding Nieves’ death are currently unclear.
This marks the second fatality in police custody this year at 120 Schermerhorn Street.

The first incident involved 32-year-old Soso Ramishvili from Brooklyn, who died in March, as reported earlier by Patch. The Legal Aid Society and Brooklyn Defender Services indicated that Ramishvili had been detained for a minor offense prior to his death while in NYPD custody.

“This individual, who should have been eligible for a desk appearance and released based on the nature of the offense, suffered in custody for three days without receiving medical attention, despite numerous requests from defense attorneys and other staff to provide necessary care. Such a degree of negligence is unacceptable,” a joint statement expressed.
