Christopher Kyle Reid Jr Obituary, Death; – The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office has issued an update regarding the tragic shooting that occurred on Friday, October 17, 2025, in the Cedar Creek Cove subdivision of Mabank, Texas.

The individual identified as the shooter, Christopher Kyle Reid Jr., 29, from Hubbard, has been confirmed deceased. Reid suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound after crashing his vehicle into a Buc-ee’s store in Ennis. The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office has not disclosed any information regarding the timing of Reid’s death.

Two individuals injured in the Mabank shooting have shown notable recovery:

Colton Reid, 24, has been discharged from the hospital and is now recuperating at home.
Henry Hopgood, 70, remains hospitalized but is awake and responsive, marking an improvement from his earlier critical state.
The three victims who lost their lives in the incident have been identified as follows:

Kimberly Simpson, 51 (Multiple gunshot wounds)
Connie Patrick, 72 (Multiple gunshot wounds)

Rodney Hammonds, 57 (Gunshot wound, blunt force trauma, and multiple stab wounds)
The incident commenced at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Friday, October 17, when the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting in the Cedar Creek Cove subdivision of Mabank, Texas. Deputies arrived to discover multiple victims.

Authorities promptly identified 29-year-old Christopher Kyle Reid Jr. as the suspect in the shooting. Deputies later determined that the suspect had crashed his maroon 2003 Dodge Caravan into the entrance of a Buc-ee’s store in Ennis around 5 a.m. that same morning.
As Reid drove into the building, he struck and pinned a woman in her 30s against a sales display near the main entrance.

After the vehicle came to a halt, Reid inflicted a self-harm wound with a firearm. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he remained in critical condition until his death was confirmed.

The pedestrian was also taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The motive behind the mass shooting has yet to be disclosed.
