Christopher Ciccone Obituary, Death; – Numerous news organizations are reporting the passing of Christopher Ciccone, the younger sibling of renowned singer and entertainer Madonna. He was 63 years old.
Ciccone, who had been battling cancer, passed away on Friday in Michigan, as confirmed by his representative, Brad Taylor, to The Associated Press on Sunday. In a statement provided to CBS News, Taylor mentioned that Ciccone’s husband of eight years, Ray Thacker, was by his side during his final moments.
According to TMZ, last month saw the death of Joan Ciccone, the stepmother of both Madonna and Christopher, also due to cancer.
A dancer from a young age, Ciccone played a significant role in his sister’s ascent to pop stardom during the 1980s. He appeared in music videos such as “Lucky Star,” served as the art director for her Blond Ambition World Tour, and was the tour director for The Girlie Show tour. Additionally, he directed music videos for artists like Dolly Parton and Tony Bennett.
Beyond his performances, Ciccone, one of Madonna’s seven siblings, authored a New York Times bestselling autobiography titled “Life With My Sister Madonna.” In this work, he discussed their complicated relationship, her romantic involvements, and shared memories from their time touring together.
For two decades, he was an integral part of her career, contributing to choreography, direction, wardrobe, and even interior design for her residences in New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. He remarked that their relationship sometimes resembled a marriage.
While Ciccone and Madonna shared a close bond in the early stages of their careers, their relationship deteriorated over time. He accused Madonna of disclosing his sexual orientation without his permission in the early 1990s and claimed that her former husband, Guy Ritchie, exhibited homophobic behavior.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ciccone identified a pivotal moment in their relationship when Madonna filmed at their mother’s grave for her documentary, “Truth or Dare.”
Following the release of Ciccone’s book, Madonna’s representative informed The Associated Press that she had not read the publication but expressed disappointment that her brother would choose to profit from a book centered on his sister. The book, along with his candid portrayals of the lives of his sister’s famous acquaintances, had a significant impact on their relationship.
