Christina Miranda Obituary, Death; – Authorities have identified a woman who was shot and killed by police after they reported that she aimed a firearm at officers during a confrontation on Sunday.
Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department responded to the 900 block of Erie Avenue at approximately 4 a.m. Sunday following reports of an individual armed with a gun.

According to investigators, two officers came across 35-year-old Christina Miranda, who was holding a gun to the right side of her head.

She purportedly disregarded the officers’ orders to relinquish the weapon, which led investigators to state that police deployed a Taser that proved ineffective against Miranda.
As Miranda fled across Erie Avenue, investigators report that she pointed her firearm towards the officers, prompting both to discharge their weapons.

Miranda sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported by police to Temple University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly before 5 p.m.

Investigators recovered a loaded .22 caliber Kel-Tec handgun with an obliterated serial number from the scene of the incident.

The Philadelphia Police Department, in conjunction with the District Attorney’s Office, is conducting a review of the incident in accordance with department policy.

Both officers involved, one aged 36 with 17 years of service and the other aged 25 in his second year with the department, have been placed on administrative leave.
