Cheri Lynette Haechten Obituary, Death; – A two-vehicle accident has resulted in the death of one woman and left a minor child injured.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Cheri Lynette Haechten, 36, from Big Spring, was declared deceased by medical personnel after being taken to Scenic Mountain Hospital. A passenger, identified as a 13-year-old child from Big Spring, was also taken to Scenic Mountain, where she received treatment for minor injuries.

The DPS reported that the collision took place at approximately 6:40 a.m. on Monday, October 6, at the intersection of US Route 87 and Brian Road. Preliminary details from the DPS report indicated that a 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander was halted at the intersection of Brian Road and US 87, facing west, and preparing to turn south onto the highway.

A second vehicle, a 2025 Ford F-250, was traveling north on US 87, approaching the intersection with Brian Road. The DPS indicated that the driver of the Mitsubishi did not yield the right of way to the Ford and was subsequently struck by it.

The occupants of the Ford reportedly refused EMS transport.

This incident is still under investigation, and no further information has been made available to the public at this time.
