Carol Rich Obituary, Death; – A woman charged with the murder of her mother in a Laurel County residence on March 14 appeared in court on Tuesday. Brianna Rich faces allegations of killing her mother, Carol Rich.

During the district court proceedings, a detective provided testimony regarding the circumstances of the shooting, indicating that Carol Rich was shot multiple times. Brianna Rich entered the courtroom where her sister and other family members were present, awaiting the presentation of evidence against her.

“When I asked her what transpired,” stated Detective Taylor McDaniels from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, “she mentioned that she and her mother had engaged in some form of argument.”

Detective McDaniels reported that Brianna located a firearm and subsequently shot her mother, Carol, between five to seven times in different areas of the house and outside.

“The incident began in the bathroom, moved to the kitchen, and continued into the living room,” he elaborated. “Throughout this time, she repeatedly shot her mother. She recounted that they eventually reached the driveway, where her mother collapsed.”

Questions remain regarding the events leading up to the violence, and Brianna Rich’s attorney inquired about her mental state and whether mental health issues influenced the crime.

Detective McDaniels noted that Brianna displayed no visible emotion during the interrogation, although she appeared somewhat confused and disoriented. “I cannot recall ever encountering someone who has killed their mother,” he remarked.

The attorney continued to press for information regarding Brianna’s mental health, but the judge intervened, stating that such details were unnecessary for establishing probable cause. He later confirmed that probable cause was established, and a grand jury will now decide on the possibility of an indictment.

The judge also declined to reduce Brianna’s bond, which remains set at $250,000.
