Carl Kuhn Obituary, Death; Authorities identify Iowa tractor driver killed after colliding with train

Carl Kuhn Obituary, Death; – The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office has provided additional details regarding a tragic incident involving a train and a tractor that occurred on Monday afternoon near Jackson Junction.

According to investigators, the incident took place at approximately 2:32 p.m. when the tractor driver was traveling west on 128th Street. Upon crossing Highway 24, the driver attempted to navigate the railroad tracks, as reported by KCRG. The train conductor informed law enforcement that the tractor driver noticed the approaching train at the last moment and tried to halt the vehicle.

In response, the conductor engaged the train’s brakes; however, the train struck the tractor at a speed of around 30 mph, impacting the center of the vehicle. The force of the collision caused the tractor to separate at the cab and engine compartment, resulting in the driver being ejected through the front windshield.

Emergency responders arrived promptly and began administering aid to the driver, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the tractor has been identified as 60-year-old Carl Kuhn from Fort Atkinson. The sheriff’s office noted that the location of the collision is an uncontrolled train crossing, marked by yield signs on both sides.
