Brian Timothy Kada Obituary, Death; – Authorities have identified the individual who was shot and killed by a police officer near the entrance road to Philadelphia International Airport. The incident occurred at approximately 1:10 a.m. on Monday.

According to police reports, officers were responding to a report of a man walking in the center of the roadway. The officer who initiated the response encountered 36-year-old Brian Timothy Kada on the South I-95 ramp (1 PIA Way). Police state that Kada informed the officer he had been stabbed.

Subsequently, the officer requested backup and an ambulance. Radio communications obtained by 6abc reveal a dispatcher assisting the officer in calling for medical assistance and additional support.

“Code yellow on the ramp coming into the airport on I-95, male has been stabbed and needs medical attention,” a female dispatcher stated. Officials report that during the wait for backup and medical personnel, a physical confrontation occurred between Kada and the officer. The officer attempted to use a Taser on Kada multiple times, but it appeared ineffective. Officer Brian Laureano, 53, arrived at the scene as the initial officer deployed his Taser again.

According to police, this Taser discharge also failed to incapacitate Kada, prompting Laureano to fire his weapon multiple times. Dispatch recordings capture Laureano stating, “I discharged three times, male shot in the stomach.”

Kada was hit three times and was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers sustained injuries during the incident. Philadelphia police confirmed to 6abc that none of the officers in the Airport Unit are equipped with body cameras.

Officer Laureano, a 28-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, is currently assigned to the Airport Unit and has been placed on administrative duty pending the results of an Internal Affairs investigation and an inquiry into the officer-involved shooting. Police indicate that the first officer on the scene did not discharge his weapon. An investigation is also being conducted by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.
