Brenda Walker Obituary, Death; – A tragic incident occurred when Walker was crossing the road near Outram Street and was hit by a speeding Toyota Yaris shortly before 7 am. Despite immediate medical attention and being transported to Royal Perth Hospital with severe injuries, she unfortunately could not be saved.

Walker was celebrated for her literary contributions, having authored several award-winning novels, including “Reading By Moonlight,” “The Wing of the Night,” and “Poe’s Cat.” She was also the sister of Don Walker, a member of the band Cold Chisel, and the daughter of the esteemed author Shirley Walker.

Her family shared with 7News, “She was such a kind, intelligent, caring, and generous person who had a positive effect on many lives.” “She will be dearly missed by many.”

In a statement from Walker’s representatives this morning, they requested respect for the family’s privacy and indicated that no further comments would be made at this time.

Born in Grafton, New South Wales, Walker pursued her studies at the University of New England and obtained a PhD in English from the Australian National University. She relocated to Perth in 1984, where she held the position of Winthrop Professor of English and Cultural Studies at the University of Western Australia.

The University of Western Australia expressed profound sorrow at her passing, extending condolences to her family and friends. Her family characterized her as “kind, intelligent, caring, and generous,” noting that her death has significantly affected many lives. Peter Straus, Walker’s agent, remembered her as a “brilliant writer” and a “thoughtful and lovely person,” lamenting her death as a substantial loss.

Lucas Martins Da Silva, a 30-year-old resident of Osborne Park, has been identified as the driver of the Toyota Yaris that struck Walker. He faces charges of dangerous driving causing death under aggravating circumstances.

Authorities allege that he was traveling at 104 km/h in a 60 km/h zone just prior to the collision, and at 97 km/h at the moment of impact. Da Silva’s bail application was retracted after the prosecution presented compelling evidence, including multiple witnesses and CCTV footage. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance scheduled for January.
