Benard Mack Obituary, Death;- The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Jackson Police Department, is currently investigating an incident that resulted in the death of a man early Sunday morning, October 26, after he was shot while seated in the passenger seat of a vehicle.
According to Tyree Jones, the Hinds County Sheriff and Interim Jackson Police Chief, an unidentified Black man was discovered shot to death inside a vehicle at approximately 2 a.m. on Sunday in the 2800 block of Ridgeland Drive in Jackson.
Jones indicated that a preliminary investigation suggests the victim was a passenger in the vehicle and was shot “at an unknown location” prior to being transported to Ridgeland Drive.
He further stated that the victim had been taken to Ridgeland Drive by the vehicle’s driver. Hinds County Interim Coroner Jeramiah Howard identified the deceased individual to the Clarion Ledger as Benard Mack, aged 58, from Edwards. Howard reported that Mack sustained multiple gunshot wounds across his body, and the vehicle exhibited several bullet holes.
Howard informed the Clarion Ledger that authorities currently have “reason to believe” that the incident took place in Edwards, which is approximately 30 minutes from Ridgeland Drive.
Jones mentioned that the driver was apprehended by Jackson police officers on unrelated charges.
