Andrew E Verwers Obituary, Death; – The Des Moines police have disclosed the identity of the individual who perished in a crash on Monday.
Authorities report that Andrew E. Verwers, aged 53, from Des Moines, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital after being struck by a pickup truck at approximately 8 p.m. on Monday. A pedestrian has died as a result of injuries incurred in a hit-and-run incident.
As per the Des Moines Police Department, emergency responders were summoned to the intersection of Merle Hay and Hickman roads shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday, where they discovered an adult male suffering from critical injuries. According to police, the man was struck by a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup truck, which subsequently fled the scene.
Paramedics transported the injured man to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Law enforcement officials report that they located the truck believed to be involved in the incident in the 2500 block of 44th Street. The driver has been identified as an adult male. As of Tuesday morning, no charges have been filed.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. This incident marks the seventh traffic-related fatality in Des Moines for the year 2025.
