Jeffrey Stoppenhagen Obituary, Death; – The individual who was shot and killed by an officer from the Allen County Sheriff’s Department has been identified. The Allen County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the deceased as 51-year-old Jeffrey Stoppenhagen from Fort Wayne.
The cause of death has been established as a gunshot wound to the torso, and the manner of death has been classified as a homicide resulting from police action. Law enforcement officials responded to the 2700 block of Ascension Court on Tuesday at approximately 2:27 p.m. following reports of an armed individual experiencing a mental health crisis.
As per the sheriff’s office, Stoppenhagen emerged from a residence armed with a firearm and was subsequently shot by an officer; no other individuals were harmed during the incident. The shooting is currently under investigation by the Indiana State Police, the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
