Jayen Gladden Obituary, Death; – A teenager in South Carolina was fatally shot while his friend was handling a firearm, as reported by authorities.
According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, 15-year-old Jayen Gladden was shot on Sunday morning. His 14-year-old companion faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and possession of a weapon by a minor.
Investigators revealed that the 14-year-old was cleaning a handgun when it discharged, striking Jayen in the upper body. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
“It is tragic for a coroner to have to place a young individual in a body bag,” stated Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford. Fifth Circuit Solicitor Byron Gipson indicated that the 14-year-old will be processed through family court before a decision is made regarding potential adult charges. The sheriff’s department is actively investigating the source of the firearm.
